Day 1: Fes – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Camel Excursion – Night in Desert

Pick-up at 08:00 in the morning from your accommodation in Fes and drive to the Merzouga Desert, passing through Ifrane, a winter ski resort in a totally un-Moroccan style, built by the French in the 1930s to resemble a Swiss village. We then visit the cedar forest in Azrou, where you will see monkeys, and drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Most of the day will be spent winding your way through beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Halfway, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. Then we continue towards Merzouga. On the way, we will stop at panoramic viewpoints to admire the huge oasis of palm trees.

You will reach Merzouga in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you will have a rest and enjoy mint tea. After your break, your guide and camels will be waiting for you to begin a camel trek across the sandy dunes of Erg Chebbi. After about 2 hours, you will reach the desert camp, where you will spend the night in a Berber tent.

At your desert shelter, your camels will be hobbled and mint tea will be served. After a wonderful dinner, there will be a campfire and traditional drum music. Dinner and overnight stay in a Berber tent.

Day 2: Camel Ride Back to Merzouga – Todra Gorges

In the morning, you can get up early, take a walk over the sand dunes, and watch the sunrise near the Algerian border, which is about 50 km from Merzouga. Then, take the camels back to the hotel, where you will have breakfast, a shower, and time to relax. You will also have the opportunity to take nice pictures before continuing your journey.

As part of your 3 Days Fes Desert Tour to Marrakech, depart along the road used by the Paris-Dakar Rally. We will reach a cave where you can discover how local people extract fossils from the heart of the earth. Then we stop to visit Rissani, the town where the Alaouite dynasty was established and which still rules Morocco today.

There, you will see the historic monument of Sijilmassa, once a major center of desert trade, as well as the many kasbahs (fortified villages) in the area. Rissani is home to more than 350 kasbahs. You may also visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alaouite dynasty, the Museum of Sijilmassa, and the souk, the largest market in the area.

Then we continue through the Ziz Valley and the gorges. You will have a walk in Todra Gorge to enjoy the beauty of the river and mountains. Afterward, continue to Dades Gorge, where you will have dinner and spend the night in a nice and traditional kasbah.

Day 3: Todra Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, you will have a walk in the gorges to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. Then we stop to visit the town of Ouarzazate, the Taourirt Kasbah, and the Atlas Film Studios, the largest and most famous film studios in Africa.

From here, we head to the Fint Oasis, near Ouarzazate. We then take the Tizi n’Tichka road, stopping for lunch in a small village. This final scenic drive marks the last stage of your 3 Days Fes Desert Tour to Marrakech. We will then reach Marrakech in the late afternoon, marking the end of the tour.
