Short on time? Escape the city of Fes by joining the Fes Desert Tour 2 Days with Mirage Morocco Travel for a unique desert experience.
Explore the enchanting Erg Chebbi Dunes on a camel trek and savor a memorable night in a luxury desert camp, immersed in the local experience.
Departure from Fes around 08:00, traveling to Merzouga. The first destination will be the little Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane. After having a cup of coffee here, you will have an opportunity to watch the Barbary apes in the cedar forest of Azrou. From here we drive over the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt (also called the capital apple of Morocco), where you can have lunch.
We continue traveling over the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass (known as the she-camel pass) and along the Ziz Valley (an oasis full of palm trees and small traditional villages). You will have many stops along the way.
Reach Merzouga in the afternoon. Your camels and guide will be waiting for you to take you across the Erg Chebbi Dunes to your desert camp. Get to watch an orange sunset from a high dune. After a delicious dinner, the staff of the camp will light the fire, so you can have a sit around a campfire while enjoying some Berber music under a starlit sky.

Today, it is highly recommended to wake up early to get an opportunity to watch a spectacular and glorious sunrise. After a tasty breakfast at your camp, we leave for Rissani (the foundation of the current ruling family). Here you can get to discover a traditional Moroccan market if today is a market day (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). Then, travel back to Fez via Erfoud and along the Ziz Valley again. End of your Fes desert trip 2 days by dropping you off at your accommodation in Fes.

We didn’t have time to do the full 3-day trip to Marrakech, so we booked this 2-day return excursion instead. Best decision ever! Our driver, Hassan, picked us up right on time in Fes. He was so knowledgeable about geology and pointed out cool rock formations we would have missed. The cedar forests were misty and beautiful, and seeing the monkeys was my kids’ favorite part. The desert night was pure magic. Thank you, Mirage Morocco Travel, for making this happen in such a short window!
We needed to get from Marrakech to Fes and chose this desert tour instead of just taking a bus – best decision ever! The Atlas Mountains scenery was breathtaking, and sleeping in the Sahara was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our guide Hassan was wonderful, sharing stories about Berber culture and Moroccan history. The itinerary was well-paced, and we never felt rushed. The sunrise over the dunes was unforgettable. Worth every penny!
Honestly, I was worried that spending 8 hours in a car for one night wasn’t worth it. But Youssef made the ride comfortable and entertaining. The road through the Ziz Valley is stunning—we stopped at an incredible viewpoint over the oasis that looked like a mirage. Reaching the Erg Chebbi dunes and riding the camels into the sunset felt surreal. The camp food was delicious (best Tagine we had in Morocco!). Highly recommended even for a short trip.
We needed a reliable driver for our Fes-Sahara loop, and Lahcen exceeded expectations. His car was spotless, and he drove safely on the winding mountain roads which put us totally at ease. He timed our arrival in Merzouga perfectly so we caught the sun just as it touched the sand. Waking up to the silence of the Sahara before driving back was a spiritual experience. Karaoui‘s communication beforehand was also excellent.
